SUMMARY:Salem's Lot: Late Night Screening
DESCRIPTION:Tobe Hooper’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ensemble cast vampire novel SALEMS LOT closes late night horror film club Category H’s season “Goth Films Or Films Of Interest To Goths”. Don’t let the fact this night is dedicated to a TV film fool you\, SALEM’S LOT is dripping in slow burn small town gothic atmosphere that winds its way to a truly terrifying climax.\n\nA writer is visiting Salems Lot to work on his novel. A child obsessed with things that go bump in the night and his friends are working on a play. Priests fill bottles of holy water\, the bars are sparse but populated\, a couple argues at home. The small town of Salems Lot is doing just fine\, until a mysterious antique dealer begins to set up shop.\n\nSALEMS LOT is divided into two ‘episodes’\, and thus it is our two parter all nighter that closes “Goth Films Or Films Of Interest To Goths”. Built from a list of the same name discovered in the Rio’s archive\, we selected a series of double bills from over fifty films. It’s been an amazing goth summer at Rio Cinema\, screening sequels\, women focused horror films and creature features\, but for closing night we’re bringing it back to the television where many of us encountered grainy images of horror for the first time.\n\nWe are pleased to say that this screening is in collaboration with Lammiland\, the project of George Lammiman\, making things in service of atmosphere across film and theatre. Expect immersion\, smoke and all kinds of undead surprises for this extremely special Category H. You’ll never step foot in the Rio Cinema the same again…..\n\nThe film begins at 11:15\, the same time late night double bills historically started at the Rio.\nContent Warning: Salem’s Lot contains two brief sequences of domestic violence\, one a sound happening off screen and the other a bruise on someone’s face – implied it is caused by domestic violence. Please message Category H on Instagram @categoryhfilms if you have any questions about the film or the night itself.

DESCRIPTION:RE:VAMPED WEEKEND – LINEUP ANNOUNCED! \n\n\n\nGoth City Promotions have announced the lineup for the third Re:Vamped Weekend of vampire-adjacent culture\, returning in 2025 after the success of the first two events in 2023 & 2025. \n\n\n\nRe:Vamped\, which builds on the success of the World Dracula Day Lecture which began in 2021\, takes place at venues in Bradford including the famous Midland Hotel\, which has a unique place in the history of UK gothic culture as the place where legendary Victorian stage actor Henry Irving died in 1905 on his farewell tour accompanied\, by his business manager – ‘Dracula’ author Bram Stoker. \n\n\n\nOn Friday 23rd May\, the Vampire Masquerade Ball returns in the French Ballroom at the Midland Hotel from 8-pm midnight\, featuring the return of DJ Pinka Belle! \n\n\n\nAt lunchtime on Saturday 24th May\, the fifth World Dracula Day Lecture will be held in his French Ballroom at the Midland Hotel from 12pm. Rosie has been named one of the most compelling LGBT+ writers in the UK today\, she writes fiction\, poetry\, and song lyrics\, & is author of four historical novels: ‘The Palace of Curiosities’\, ‘Vixen’ and ‘The Night Brother’\, and her new novel\, ‘The Fates’ (Quercus). Rosie is also lead singer with post-punk band The March Violets. Their latest album ‘Crocodile Promises’ is out now with Metropolis Records. \n\n\n\nIn her lecture ‘Radiant Girls: You can’t be Goth\, queer and feminist!’ she’ll reflect on a pioneering lifetime in Goth/ic writing and performance – as co-founder of post-punk band The March Violets\, mistress of mayhem Rosie Lugosi the Vampire Queen\, and Rosie Garland – lyricist\, novelist\, poet & short story writer. A voyage into the dark & light side of post-punk and Goth culture of the 1980s and beyond\, discovering how to forge identity and find a voice when an outsider amongst outsiders. \n\n\n\nAnd from 5pm on Saturday 24th May sees as day of incredible live music at The 1 in 12 Club Bradford\, featuring a rare hometown show by post-punk legends 1919\, headlining a fine bill including Last July\, Byronic Sex & Exile\, Chaos Bleak and Hurtsfall! \n\n\n\nPlus\, a smattering of stalls\, films\, and other surprises over the weekend! \n\n\n\nAll proceeds will be donated to our £2\,000 appeal for PAFRAS (Positive Action For Refugees & Asylum Seekers). \n\n\n\nTickets are on sale now via Eventbrite\, at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/…/revamped-weekend-2025… \n\n\n\nIncredible artwork by Daevid Jael!
