SUMMARY:Mono + GGGOLDDD
DESCRIPTION:The Tokyo\, Japan based 4-piece instrumental rock band MONO was originally formed in 1999. Their unique approach of combining moving orchestral arrangements and shoegaze guitar noise is held in extremely high regard; so much so\, that the band’s musicianship and the diverse musical palette has eclipsed the rock genre and exists within its own realm. As the NME once stated\, “this is music for the Gods”. \n\n\n\nOver the first decade\, MONO rapidly established a well-acclaimed status\, especially with their live performances. Through their annual world tour consisting of around 150 shows\, visiting over 59 countries\, both critics and fans of rock music agree their sheer euphoric\, dynamic resonance of performance make MONO one of the best live bands in existence. A particularly monumental early live memory was a special set of orchestra shows celebrating the 10th anniversary in New York\, Tokyo\, London and Melbourne; which was later immortalised as the live album “Holy Ground”. MONO now also proudly holds the title of being one of the most internationally successful bands in Japan. \n\n\n\nOutside of the studio and live music\, MONO has also made its name as a film score composer. After releasing 10 successful albums including the live album with an orchestra\, the band received the highly regarded award “The Marshall Hawkins Awards: Best Musical Score – Featurette” from the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema for their collaborative short film “Where We Begin” in 2015\, and the band was also nominated for “Ariel Award for Best Original Music Score” for the feature film “The 4th Company” which was released in 2016.

SUMMARY:The Soft Moon + TBC
DESCRIPTION:━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━THE SOFT MOON • thesoftmoon.bandcamp.com \n\n\n\n+ SUPPORT━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━Tickets • hdfst.uk/E87971━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━“The whole point of this record was to share every emotion that I feel\,” says The Soft Moon’s Luis Vasquez. “No two songs are the same. It’s about existing in the world as a human being and experiencing many emotions and experiences throughout life.” \n\n\n\nAnd so hence the title Exister\, a record rooted in the ecstatic joys and crippling lows that life can throw up and how just hanging on and existing is sometimes all we have. “Exister is my way of saying ‘I’m here\, deal with it.’” Vasquez says. \n\n\n\nThe reason the album exists as such a personal one for Vasquez is because his life underwent a lot of changes throughout its creation. He left Berlin\, his home of many years\, and moved to the Joshua Tree to find some space musically\, and personally\, during lockdown. “I had a ton more freedom than I’ve ever had\,” he says. For one\, he could actually play drums\, which he’s never been able to do before due to space constraints. Even his first album\, which was typified by his whispering vocal style\, was because of his neighbour situation. In the Joshua Tree\, he could unleash himself and let rip and the clearest\, and most symbolic result of that\, is the prominent\, powerful vocals of Vasquez that truly capture someone gaining confidence in their own voice. “I always complained that I never had enough freedom to do everything I wanted\,” he says. “This time I literally had everything at my disposal.” \n\n\n\nSonically\, this expression is a vast\, expansive and potent one. The opening ‘Sad Song’\, which unfurls with a dense brooding atmosphere\, Vasquez describes as almost a ballad\, while tracks such as ‘The Pit’ capture the opposite end of the musical spectrum\, exploding as a thundering piece of industrial techno complete with gut-churning levels of bass. \n\n\n\n‘Monster’ – a song that follows a human metamorphosis into an unrecognizable and destructive being – seamlessly combines a deeply melodic\, almost electro pop\, vocal hook with a slow build atmospherics to create something equally beautiful and unsettling. ‘Become the Lies’ explores the devastating consequences of being lied to by your own family and is a post-punk stomper\, merging charging basslines\, pummelling drums and snaking guitars\, all of which combine explosively. Elsewhere the album runs the gauntlet of everything from ambient to dark wave – features ferocious guest contributions from Fish Narc and Special Interest’s Alli Logot on ‘Him’ and ‘Unforgiven’ – all while retaining that distinct tone that unmistakably The Soft Moon. \n\n\n\nIt felt like something of a musical reset for Vasquez\, who had come out of making his last album\, Criminal\, with some frustrations about the process and end result. “This is the first record where I felt completely detached from my career because of COVID and not touring\,” he says. “It felt like all those years before were just a dream. I was trying to write music as if I was starting completely over.” This is also reflected in a new lyrical approach that embraced stream of consciousness delivery\, allowing Vasquez to tap into the more pure and raw parts of his inner self. \n\n\n\nAnother part of this starting again was hoping to make amends with some difficult family situations that had existed from childhood\, but the opposite ended up happening and it changed the direction and shape of the record\, as he went through a “roller coaster of conflicts” with his mother\, which was further exacerbated when his uncle came out of prison after 40 years. “I thought I was done with the album when I found out about family secrets that were so disturbing\, I reached breaking point\,” he says. “I was overwhelmed and angry. All that pain had to go somewhere and it went into the songs.” \n\n\n\nA photo of Vasquez as a child is the album cover and it’s representative of a record that involved reconnecting with his younger self\, with a mother-son relationship at the centre of the album. “It’s my child self that you hear all over it\,” he says. “I was reminiscing and hurting a lot during the writing process. This is possibly my most vulnerable record yet.” \n\n\n\nHowever\, despite the pain\, anger\, vulnerability\, and hurt that can be found at the core of this record\, there’s also a profound sense of hope and beauty. This transition from a place of discomfort to one of relief is key for Vasquez when making a record and going through a process of healing. It’s been a cathartic process for an artist who can find the creative process quite torturous and fear-inducing. “My main goal is always to express something on the very deepest level possible\,” he says. “But to channel that I have to go deep into myself to bring that out. It can be dark.” \n\n\n\nHowever\, a key point of reaching deep within himself during the creative process is so the end musical result can act as a bridge. “It’s for other people too\,” he says. “I want them to feel things – to not feel alone and to connect. It just makes me feel lighter and a little happier with my life getting shit off my chest.” \n\n\n\nOn the closing ‘Exister’\, the album seems to reach a place of peace and solace\, ending on a quiet\, reflective and poignant moment that captures a sense of optimism after a period of upheaval. “I love that feeling of going through turmoil and then knowing that there’s that light at the end of the tunnel\,” says Vasquez. “It’s kind of heroic. It’s like climbing to the top of a mountain.”━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━18+ event.A DM Generation & BLG presentation.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━More events:www.linktr.ee/dm.onlinewww.linktr.ee/BLGPromotions━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

SUMMARY:Last July + Meg Lee Chin + Sex Bandit + Oogan + Guru Honey Badger
DESCRIPTION:Last July – Gary Numan meets Duran Duran meets *********\, all fronted by the fabulous ice maiden of electropop Gothique\, Alixandria Corvyn. Gothic rock and dancefloor friendly EDM shapes are very much in the mix. Some fat synth sounds and powerful rhythms pounding forth. \n\n\n\nMeg Lee Chin – Taiwanese American singer and one woman musical revolution\, Meg Lee Chin first came to prominence singing and playing with Martin Atkins’ Pigface\, and has since made startling music with Crunch and created the highly respected Gearspace producers forum. A remarkable talent and we’re very pleased to have her along tonight. \n\n\n\nSex Bandit– with a stage name that could break Google (step away from your search engine) Zoe Simon as Sex Bandit knows how to confront the infamous male gaze and torment and tantalise with some gloriously kitsch pervcore electro EDM. Performance Art you can really dance to. \n\n\n\nOogan – from the wonderful world of Lucida Records\, this might well be a Legpuppy off shoot- although legend states that this audio visual EDM artist hails from the village of Akākaz\, destroyed by Baltic Tribes in an ancient Pagan war or some such. So he’s pretty old is Oogan. What we get is dark\, deviant techno with a hardhouse element\, 4 to the floor but frightening as fuck. And visuals! Trip. Out. \n\n\n\nGuru Honey Badger – the wonderful Rachel Darq of Madame Krumpets and Rock And Roll Cabaret infamy is of course the go to gal for Burlesque in London Town. But she also has an array of swish musical explorations to her name\, of which this Performance Art techno vehicle is but one. Arrive nice and early (half 7 kids) and be sure to catch this amazing happening!

Main room access from after the final floor show finishes approx 12.20am \n\n\n\nLimited tickets for low and unwaged patrons \n\n\n\nThis is a standing event with a very limited amount of seating which will be allocated to those who need it on first come first served basis. I can no longer reserve seats in advance but we will do our best to make sure anyone who needs a seat on the night has one. \n\n\n\nThis is a queer event but it’s open to anyone outside of the LQBTQIA+ community if you feel like it’s going to be your kind of vibe. All are welcome to come and party as long as you’re respectful of people being their authentic queer selves in a gender neutral venue! \n\n\n\nDress Code – \n\n\n\nNo actual dress code is enforced – be fierce\, be comfy\, be yourselves! However you’re encouraged to wear goth\, cyber\, rave\, kawaii\, fetish\, latex\, leather/pleather\, lace etc. No one will be refused entry on the basis of how they are dressed but in order to keep it a safe space the doorman may check any ‘plain clothes’ patrons have a ticket before allowing them into the venue. \n\n\n\nAdvanced tickets only\, we do not offer tickets on the door. Tickets on sale til 1 hour before the event finishes for anyone needing last minute entry. \n\n\n\nEarly bird discount tickets on sale very soon! Limited availability! \n\n\n\nWe also offer a ‘plus tips’ ticket\, this extra amount goes directly to our guest performers and DJ’s on top of their fee to help increase their earnings for the night as this is a small indie run event. \n\n\n\nIf you have any music requests drop them in the discussion on the Facebook event page! \n\n\n\nApologies but Bal Fashions is not a wheelchair accessible venue. There is a disabled toilet at ground level in the bar. The main room is only accessible via stairs. I am working on plans for an accessible event in future. \n\n\n\nAny questions drop me a DM – @kingconfuza @cryptidqueerssheffield or kingconfuza@gmail.com \n\n\n\nAll sales are final. Tickets are non-refundable\, however they are transferrable but we ask patrons to be aware of potential ticket resale scams. Please send me an email to kingconfuza@gmail.com if someone is offering to resell you a ticket and you have any doubts as to its authenticity. \n\n\n\nThis event is 18+ only. ID may be required on entry but DOES NOT need to match the name on your ticket as this is a trans friendly event and we don’t give a fuck about government names\, only that you are over 18. \n\n\n\nCryptid Queers is a R.O.A.R event. This means we reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone if we believe their presence will cause upset or danger to our regulars. If you have a history of violence\, abuse\, predatory behaviour\, or any form of aggression towards anyone but especially queer people\, femmes\, or anyone who is vulnerable you will be refused entry on the grounds that your presence would make my regulars feel unsafe. Your ticket will not be refunded as this is a non-refundable event. We are 100% committed to keeping this event a safe space. If you have any concerns please drop me a message. \n\n\n\nFollow @cryptidqueerssheffield on Instagram for updates and cast announcements!

DESCRIPTION:GOTH / ITALO / POST-PUNK / DISCO / SYNTH \nHot goth summer? Hot goth summer. \nDM resident Catnip will be joined by the East Coast’s finest\, DJ Vilkas of Shadowplay Edinburgh\, for his first soujourn to Bonjour. We’ll make him feel welcome (and/or give him a pile of Long Island Iced Teas). \nDress spooky and queer\, but comfortable. \n// \nENTRY \n£5 standard entry\, £3 for trade unionists\, £0 for unwaged folk. Tickets on the door may be paid for in cash or via contactless. \nTickets available at Ticket Tailor \n// \nACCESSIBILITY \nBonjour is a worker-cooperative\, profit-sharing queer bar/venue. \nThe venue is at street level\, and fully wheelchair accessible – there is one step within the building but a ramp is available. \nAll toilets are gender-neutral\, including a fully accessible one. \nIf you can’t afford a taxi but need to get home\, speak to the bar staff and they can arrange one for you. \nDanse Macabre operates a strict safe space policy and will not tolerate bigotry of any kind. The area is served by a number of buses\, and the N6 night bus goes south from Stockwell Street from midnight. \n// \nHEALTH \nPlease do not attend if you feel unwell. Please take an LFT before attending. The DJs may have some spare FFP2 masks available on request. \nThe music will be loud enough to dance to\, but not too loud to stop you having conversations comfortably.
