DESCRIPTION:We’re returning with force to the Castle\, with three bands for another brilliant alternative night. \n\n\n\nThe unspeakable Beinaheleidenschaftsgegenstand bring a dark\, ambient introduction to our night with their surreal and artistic works. \n\n\n\nWe follow that with the more upbeat gothic rhythms of Attrition\, who’s melodic and percussive masterpieces paint stark pictures with dark fixtures. \n\n\n\nWith the energy built up\, we’ve also got our old friends at Cyph_On\, who got their start performing live with us\, with their hard hitting and rage fuelled blend of metal\, industrial and punk\, raising the fundamental problems of the world with their lyrics. \n\n\n\nOnce the bands have been successfully exhausted\, we’ve got 3 brilliant DJs in DJ Ultravixen\, DJ Conal\, and DJ CyberCheetah. Each bringing their own personal twisted styles to the dance floor. Expect harder hitting beats and distortion as the night goes on. \n\n\n\nFinally\, Luton Council moved Luton Pride night to this night\, and we’re absolutely here for it! Whilst we’ve told the DJs to expect a bit more colour on the dance-floor than usual\, our scene has always been accepting of all tolerant people. It’ll be good to share in these celebrations

DESCRIPTION:STIGMATA PRESENTS \n\n\n\nLENE LOVICH Toy Box 2025 UK Tour \n\n\n\nDetroit-born legendary post-punk pop singer Lene Lovich hit the top of the UK charts with her single “Lucky Number” in 1979\, and was crowned the “Queen of Quirk”\, influencing a generation of pop and alternative acts\, from Nina Hagen to Boy George\, and from Madonna to Dresden Dolls. A normally reclusive figure\, Lovich turned her back on the limelight after her third album No Man’s Land was released in 1982 amid disagreements with her record company about her unwillingness to compromise her groundbreaking visual style for the then newly emergent MTV. Subsequently she has recorded only two albums in the last thirty years. Lovich’s unique vocal and visual style\, along with her catchy but experimental songwriting\, has exerted a huge influence over alternative pop culture and garnered her many plaudits and continued interest. She has been described as everything from “Kate Bush on acid” to “the New Wave Maria Callas”. Her hits “Lucky Number”\, “Say When”\, “Bird Song” and “New Toy” are still regular features in the clubs and radio of Europe\, Japan\, Australia and the USA. In May 2012\, Lene joined forces with Subterraneans frontman Jude Rawlins for a celebration of the music of German composer Kurt Weill. During the tour they hatched an idea to form a new band to take Lene’s classic material back on the road. Jude immediately recruited bassist Lydia Fischer and drummer Morgan King in June\, and keyboardist Kirsten Morrison joined in July. It was a baptism of fire for the new band\, after just one low-key show at London’s much-loved 12 Bar club\, their next appearance was headlining the annual Drop Dead Festival in Berlin2025 sees the Lene Lovich Band back on the road. DESCRIPTION:New Model Army – “Unbroken” Album & Tour 2024 \n\n\n\nWe’re happy to announce that our 16th studio album ‘Unbroken’ will be released on 26th January 2024\, accompanied by a first tour of Europe (including the UK). \n\n\n\nWe started writing the album in 2021 against a backdrop of everything that is happening in a fast-changing world and in our own lives\, but of course the process was interrupted by the much delayed 40th Anniversary tour and the whole Sinfonia project. We decided early on that our number one choice to mix the album would be the legendary Tchad Blake who accepted\, and who now says: “not much hits me as genuine these days. New Model Army hits it for me. Wonderfully recorded and produced by the band themselves\, mixing this album felt like a gift.”Full of guitars\, searing vocals and with the emphasis on bass and drums which characterizes all our work\, Unbroken sounds a lot like New Model Army\, but different again. \n\n\n\nThe album will be available as a single vinyl version in a gatefold sleeve – either black or a limited edition in opaque red\, and the CD version will be in a hardback media-book. \n\n\n\nOur past model of taking pre-orders and ‘special editions and bundles’ exclusively through Townsend has been rendered impractical by Brexit (we extend our apologies to everyone in the EU who had problems with the delivery of Sinfonia). DESCRIPTION:An artist of fierce intellect and purpose\, Jaz Coleman –heads out across the UK in March 2024 -to tell it like it is – the UNSPEAKABLE truth in the world of Killing Joke. \n\n\n\nJaz Coleman– the celebrated musician; composer; producer; author; lecturer; traveller; philosopher; actor and Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres\, was born on 26 February 1960 in Cheltenham to an English father and an Anglo-Indian mother of half-Bengali descent. \n\n\n\nColeman studied piano and violin under Eric Coleridge\, head of music for Cheltenham College\, until the age of 17\, and was a member of several cathedral choirs in England before forming the iconic post-punk band Killing Joke \n\n\n\nSince coming together in 1978\, Killing Joke\, combining a fierce intelligence with a thirst for esoteric knowledge that matches a music that is visceral and almost spiritual in its primal spirit\, are like no other band. This is a group who came out of punk and then set out on one of the most remarkable and idiosyncratic journeys ever. \n\n\n\nKilling Joke has played a pivotal role in both alternative music and culture; their influence has been enormous\, with an unlikely roll-call of musicians taking their cues from the Killing Joke catalogue – from Nirvana to most modern American metal to many DJs and dance music mavericks… few\, however\, coming close to the band’s innate power. \n\n\n\nThe intensity of the band’s repertoire has long been revered by fans\, peers and critics\, and this continued to hold sway with their 16th and most recent\, studio album\, Pylon (Spinefarm Records\, 2015)\, showing the original line-up at its potent\, pointed best. \n\n\n\nKilling Joke\, for Coleman\, is not his only outside activity: while fronting Killing Joke the mercurial Coleman has created a parallel classical career. \n\n\n\nWhen Coleman briefly quit Killing Joke in 1982\, he declared his intention to become a classical composer. A decade of studying and ongoing Killing Joke involvement later\, Coleman commenced conducting and worked with some of the world’s leading orchestras. Conductor Klaus Tennstedt described him as a ‘new Mahler’. \n\n\n\nJaz Coleman’s latest classical album\, released on 29th November 2019 ‘Magna Invocatio  – a Gnostic Mass for choir and orchestra inspired by the sublime music of Killing Joke’ was recorded with Russia’s oldest orchestra\, the St Petersburg Philharmonic. This stirring body of work taps into the more melodic\, uplifting aspects of Killing Joke’s musical canon\, using Coleman’s ongoing journey with this hugely influential UK outfit – something central to his being since later teenage years – as the consummate vehicle for a Gnostic Mass (a ritualised celebration of the mysteries of existence). \n\n\n\nWhat we have here is a passion project recorded at a time of international tension and delivered against the odds – “13 digestible epics”\, five with full chorus\, ordered to be experienced in a single sitting\, and conceived to appeal to those not generally engaged with the world of orchestral music. \n\n\n\nColeman’s first purely instrumental album\, released 1990\, is the exquisite ‘Songs from The Victorious City’\, a collaboration with sometime Art Of Noise member Anne Dudley\, \n\n\n\nIn 1995 Coleman then released his first of three albums of symphonic rock music: Us and Them: Symphonic Pink Floyd\, which peaked at Number One in the Billboard Magazine Top Classical Crossover Album chart for 35 weeks. Kashmir: Symphonic Led Zeppelin produced by Coleman with the London Philharmonic Orchestra followed and in 1999 the third symphonic rock album Riders on the Storm: The Doors Concerto with The Prague Symphony Orchestra and Nigel Kennedy was released. \n\n\n\nColeman recorded and released Pacifica: Ambient Sketches (1996) with the New Zealand String Quartet and Oceania (1999) with Maori singer Hinewehi Mohi\, before being commissioned by the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden London in 2001\, for his first large-scale opera entitled The Marriage at Cana. Also\, commissioned by the Royal Opera House was Coleman’s Unwanted\, a concerto grosso for violin\, viola and string orchestra whose theme portrays the plight of the Romany people. \n\n\n\nFurther works followed and in 2003\, he completed a second work with Nigel Kennedy and the Kroke Trio\, through EMI Classics. He then arranged the Sarah Brightman album Harem and wrote a further 12 arias to be recorded with her. \n\n\n\nPerformances have included his Symphonic Pink Floyd at the Berlin Konzerthaus for the 20th Anniversary of the fall of the Wall. Coleman also conducted the NSO Symphony Orchestra (UAE) for the opening ceremony of the Dubai World Cup\, which was broadcast to 160 countries\, and the Led Zeppelin Symphony performed by the Orchestra de la Suisse Romande in Geneva 2023. \n\n\n\nIn a time when the planet seems to be descending further into chaos\, who better than Jaz Coleman to follow out of the darkness.

DESCRIPTION:The beast has arisen! \n\n\n\nHaving laid dormant for over two decades\, Miranda Sex Garden re-emerged to play a sold out reunion show at the legendary 100 Club Oxford Street last year. \n\n\n\nFormed in 1990\, the band pioneered a unique sound blending madrigals with dark industrial rock. Following the success of albums including Madra\, Suspiria and Fairytales of Slavery\, in 2000 the band created their most accessible yet explosive record Carnival of Souls. Widely toured but never formally released\, that lost album was the last recorded work of the band. \n\n\n\nResponding to great demand for more shows\, Miranda Sex Garden will be embarking on a UK tour\, led by founding member Katharine Blake as vocalist with Trevor Sharpe on drums\, Teresa Casella on bass and Mike Servent on keyboards. Founding guitarist Ben Golomstock died in 2018\, but his sound lives on through Kavus Torabi (Cardiacs\, Gong). Performer Bev Lee Harling completes the group. \n\n\n\nKatharine Blake will be known to many as the founder of classical chart topping group Mediæval Bæbes\, who have released 11 studio albums and received an Ivor Novella award and two Emmy nominations for their unique choral sound. \n\n\n\nExpect a barrage of intense soundscapes\, ethereal vocals\, and seductive incessancy. \n\n\n\nThis unholy reunion is not to be missed.

DESCRIPTION:GHOST DANCE+ The Venus Fly Trap8pm Friday 28th April\, Bedford Esquires \n\n\n\nOn Friday 28th April we welcome back to Bedford Esquires the sounds of the almighty GHOST DANCE. \n\n\n\nAnne Marie Hurst was the backing vocalist for the Goth Rock group the Elements in Keighley UK (until 1982). In December 1982\, she helped form Skeletal Family. After departing from Skeletal Family in 1985\, she co-founded Ghost Dance with Gary Marx (formerly of The Sisters of Mercy). Ghost Dance released several indie chart hit singles through Karbon Records\, which were later compiled on the ‘Gathering Dust’ album. In 1989 they signed to Chrysalis Records and released the ‘Stop The World’ album and two more singles\, with ‘Down To The Wire’ peaking at no.66 in the UK singles chart. \n\n\n\nIn 2019 Anne Marie reformed Ghost Dance with ex Harlequyn members\, Tim Walker\, Phil Noble and Dave Wood\, then in 2020\, Stephen Derrig (formally of Original Sin) completed the line up and work commenced on a new album. Both Harlequyn and Original Sin had played several support gigs to the original Ghost Dance line-up in the late 80’s. The new single ‘Falling Down’ was released on Voltage Records in August 2021. \n\n\n\nSupport for the evening comes from THE VENUS FLY TRAP \n\n\n\nTickets on sale priced £16 in advance from Seetickets from 10am from Friday 4th November and available in person from Bedford Esquires Bar and Slide Record Shop.

DESCRIPTION:ROSE OF AVALANCHE Biography:Back after a break of more than 25 years\, The Rose of Avalanche return with an album of their previously unavailable BBC Radio 1 sessions\, and a prestigious support slot on The Mission’s 2022 UK tour.Formed in Leeds in 1984\, the band came to prominence following heavy airplay of their debut single\, the “apocalyptic epic” L.A. Rain\, by the BBC disc jockey\, John Peel. Radio 1 sessions for Peel and Janice Long followed\, and L.A. Rain sat proudly at number 26 in Peel’s 1985 Festive Fifty\, above songs by The Cure\, The Smiths and The Sisters of Mercy. \n\n\n\nThe band continued to dominate the indie scene of the period\, with follow-up singles\, Goddess\, Too Many Castles in the Sky\, Velveteen and Always There\, all topping the indie charts. Successful headline tours across the UK and Europe followed along with supporting everyone from Nico to David Bowie. \n\n\n\nMagnificently raw\, beautiful and loud\, The Rose of Avalanche are back to reclaim their rightful place at the top table of alt/goth/rock music. \n\n\n\nDESPERATE MEASURES Biography:Four decades after forming the relatively short-lived band Desperate Measures in his native New Zealand\, the singer – and noted punk journalist – Eugene Butcher has returned to his first love. Assembling a new team of punk rock avengers including former members of the UK Subs\, Done Lying Down and The Glitterati\, Eugene and his band have finally released (most of) an album.Written largely in lockdown\, Rinsed froths with pent-up energy and frustration. Scars & Memories kicks things off with a driving groove and bloody licks straight from the Johnny Thunders school of scuzzed-up rock’n’roll. The Rich-Tual (see what they did there?) keeps those energy levels high\, with a taut riff and a ‘fuck the system’ theme\, complete with big ‘woah-oh’ hooks big enough to land a whale. They certainly know their way around an unruly anthem\, but then Flowers At Your Door changes the vibe with an echoing guitar and arch gothic atmosphere that sounds more like The Cult than any Pistols punk stomp. \n\n\n\nLost Angels adds an irresistible sense of hard rocking melody to its live-in-the-studio intensity and harks back to the band’s past\, with the six-track mini-album also featuring a more laid-back demo version from 1988. Finally\, there’s a cover of Don’t Gimme No Lip Child by ’60s pop star Dave Berry that owes more to the Sex Pistols’ version that cropped up on The Great Rock ‘N’ Roll Swindle. In March the same year\, Black Doldrums signed to psych/post-punk giant Fuzz Club Records who are due to release the band’s debut album ‘Dead Awake’ on March 11th\, 2022. \n\n\n\nSupport comes from The Barratts and Under the Sun \n\n\n\nThe BarrattsIndie can seem a bit of a reductive term for the range of styles Northampton four-piece The Barratts dip their toes into. The one constant is singer and guitarist James Faulker’s wistful\, Romantic lyricism that celebrates (‘The Garrison’)\, satires (‘Name Badge’) and despairs (‘Satellites’) at the types and trappings of life in a middling English town in the 2020s. \n\n\n\nWhile their recorded output foregrounds Faulkner’s lyricism and wit\, their live shows turn these words in to rallying cries\, with their full sound and impeccably structured songwriting whipping crowds in to both disco boogies and riff-induced moshes mere minutes apart. \n\n\n\nReleasing their first single in 2015\, The Barratts have amassed a devoted local following over years on the Northampton scene before branching out to play venues up and down the country and abroad in France and Germany. But for me\, I think about it more in terms of being relaxed and content. It’s a good time to be in PARADISE LOST.” \n\n\n\nFormed in Halifax\, West Yorkshire\, in 1988\, PARADISE LOST were unlikely candidates for metal glory when they slithered from the shadows and infiltrated the UK underground.
