SUMMARY:Actors + Auger - Bedford
DESCRIPTION:ACTORS : The Jason Corbett-led outfit ACTORS are standing on the shoulders of titans with their brand of the style\, and could almost be referred to as “post-post-punk”. In a period where we narrowcast rather than broadcast so fans and new music-seekers can firmly plant themselves in a niche\, Corbett takes swings at creating sounds and production techniques that one would not usually find in a starter package of cliché plugins and samples. Backed by a stoic yet playful backing band\, the frontman shows an enthusiasm while performing and recording that often isn’t seen or heard in his preferred genre.

SUMMARY:The Rose of Avalanche + Desperate Measures + The Vaulted Skies
DESCRIPTION:ROSE OF AVALANCHE Biography:Back after a break of more than 25 years\, The Rose of Avalanche return with an album of their previously unavailable BBC Radio 1 sessions\, and a prestigious support slot on The Mission’s 2022 UK tour.Formed in Leeds in 1984\, the band came to prominence following heavy airplay of their debut single\, the “apocalyptic epic” L.A. Rain\, by the BBC disc jockey\, John Peel. Radio 1 sessions for Peel and Janice Long followed\, and L.A. Rain sat proudly at number 26 in Peel’s 1985 Festive Fifty\, above songs by The Cure\, The Smiths and The Sisters of Mercy. \n\n\n\nThe band continued to dominate the indie scene of the period\, with follow-up singles\, Goddess\, Too Many Castles in the Sky\, Velveteen and Always There\, all topping the indie charts. Successful headline tours across the UK and Europe followed along with supporting everyone from Nico to David Bowie. \n\n\n\nMagnificently raw\, beautiful and loud\, The Rose of Avalanche are back to reclaim their rightful place at the top table of alt/goth/rock music. \n\n\n\nDESPERATE MEASURES Biography:Four decades after forming the relatively short-lived band Desperate Measures in his native New Zealand\, the singer – and noted punk journalist – Eugene Butcher has returned to his first love. Assembling a new team of punk rock avengers including former members of the UK Subs\, Done Lying Down and The Glitterati\, Eugene and his band have finally released (most of) an album.Written largely in lockdown\, Rinsed froths with pent-up energy and frustration. Scars & Memories kicks things off with a driving groove and bloody licks straight from the Johnny Thunders school of scuzzed-up rock’n’roll. The Rich-Tual (see what they did there?) keeps those energy levels high\, with a taut riff and a ‘fuck the system’ theme\, complete with big ‘woah-oh’ hooks big enough to land a whale. They certainly know their way around an unruly anthem\, but then Flowers At Your Door changes the vibe with an echoing guitar and arch gothic atmosphere that sounds more like The Cult than any Pistols punk stomp. \n\n\n\nLost Angels adds an irresistible sense of hard rocking melody to its live-in-the-studio intensity and harks back to the band’s past\, with the six-track mini-album also featuring a more laid-back demo version from 1988. Finally\, there’s a cover of Don’t Gimme No Lip Child by ’60s pop star Dave Berry that owes more to the Sex Pistols’ version that cropped up on The Great Rock ‘N’ Roll Swindle. Ultimately\, this isn’t a release that is going to change the world\, but it is a set of cracking tunes performed with fire\, and sometimes that’s enough. For fans of: UK Subs\, The Stooges\, New York Dolls

DESCRIPTION:BLACK DOLDRUMS (Fuzz Club) + guestsLive at Bedford Esquires\, 8pm\, Sat 18th June \n\n\n\n“BIKER PSYCH ACID MELTDOWN” CLASH” INTRICATE POST-PUNK” NEW NOISE“YOUTHFUL AND AMBITIOUS CONTEMPORARY ROCK ‘N’ ROL L ” – SHINDIG!“MIND-BENDING WALL OF SOUND” – LOUDER THAN WAR \n\n\n\nNo Strangers to Bedford Esquires Black Doldrums ft Kevin Gibbard and Sophie Landers produce a dark psych\, contemporary form of gothic post-punk under the name Black Doldrums. \n\n\n\nTheir songs contain hook and lead tribal drums and euphoric guitar textures that frame lyrics about purpose and introspection. \n\n\n\nThe duo have been building up a devout following since their self-released ep on a limited number of cassettes ‘Exit City Lights’ before their first official signing to independent shoegaze label Club AC30 in 2018\, releasing two sold-out vinyl ep’s in 2018 and 2019\, ‘Sad Paradise’ and She ‘Divine’. \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, Black Doldrums collaborated with electronic duo ‘TVL’s Jared Artaud\, producing their debut album with grammy award winner Ted Young. \n\n\n\nIn early 2021 Black Doldrums recruited former DMT member Matthew Holt on bass guitar. In March the same year\, Black Doldrums signed to psych/post-punk giant Fuzz Club Records who are due to release the band’s debut album ‘Dead Awake’ on March 11th\, 2022. \n\n\n\nSupport comes from The Barratts and Under the Sun \n\n\n\nThe BarrattsIndie can seem a bit of a reductive term for the range of styles Northampton four-piece The Barratts dip their toes into. The one constant is singer and guitarist James Faulker’s wistful\, Romantic lyricism that celebrates (‘The Garrison’)\, satires (‘Name Badge’) and despairs (‘Satellites’) at the types and trappings of life in a middling English town in the 2020s. \n\n\n\nWhile their recorded output foregrounds Faulkner’s lyricism and wit\, their live shows turn these words in to rallying cries\, with their full sound and impeccably structured songwriting whipping crowds in to both disco boogies and riff-induced moshes mere minutes apart. \n\n\n\nReleasing their first single in 2015\, The Barratts have amassed a devoted local following over years on the Northampton scene before branching out to play venues up and down the country and abroad in France and Germany. While the pandemic brought an abrupt end to a nationwide tour in March 2020\, the band have played a couple of packed out headline shows at The Black Prince at the end of 2021 and start of 2022\, showing that both they and their dedicated fan base have successfully weathered the pandemic. \n\n\n\nTheir latest single ‘Name Badge’ was released on February 11th 2022. \n\n\n\nhttps://linktr.ee/thebarratts \n\n\n\n‘Sad Paradise’ single https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tQhurwS5pI \n\n\n\nUnder The Sun (Shore Dive Records)Under The Sun is the solo project of Matt Catling\, formed in Ipswich during the 2020 lockdown. Under the Sun has an array of influences from shoegaze\, dream pop\, electronica and post punk. \n\n\n\nFormed in Early 2020 in Suffolk\, UK With Two Previous E.P Releases Bloomer in March and Gated In July\, whirlwind in November last year \, 2022 saw the release floating and gained a bit of attention from radio airplays from the like of BBC introducing and DKFM shoegaze radio and few good reviews. \n\n\n\nAfter a Eight year Hiatus Matt Catling is Back with A refreshing project Under The Sun\, the project mostly take on the shoegaze genre with a sonic experimentation\, with influences of My Bloody Valentine\, massive attack\, Portishead\, Radiohead\, mogwai\, Explosions in the sky\, Sonic Youth Jesu\, Seefeel\, Slowdive\, M83\, Swervedriver\, Boards Of Canada and Ulrich Schnauss. SUMMARY:Paradise Lost Obsidian Moon tour with Alunah
DESCRIPTION:Obsidian… dark\, reflective and black: it’s a pretty decent description of the music that PARADISE LOST have been making over the last 32 years\, even though this most resilient of British metal bands have stoically refused to be pinned down to one easily defined formula. Powered by a lust for creativity and a stout devotion to haunting heaviness\, PARADISE LOST have defied the odds by coming back stronger than ever over the past decade. \n\n\n\n“We’re doing really well right now\,” says guitarist and co-founder Greg Mackintosh. “The last few albums have gone down well and we’ve gradually moved back up the festival bills. But for me\, I think about it more in terms of being relaxed and content. It’s a good time to be in PARADISE LOST.” \n\n\n\nFormed in Halifax\, West Yorkshire\, in 1988\, PARADISE LOST were unlikely candidates for metal glory when they slithered from the shadows and infiltrated the UK underground. But not content with spawning an entire subgenre with early death/doom masterpiece “Gothic“ nor with conquering the metal mainstream with the balls-out power of 1995’s “Draconian Times“\, they have subsequently traversed multiple genre boundaries with skill and grace\, evolving through the pitch-black alt-rock mastery of ‘90s classics “One Second“ and “Host“to the muscular but ornate grandeur of 2009’s “Faith Divides Us –Death Unites Us“ and “Tragic Idol“(2012)\, with the nonchalant finesse of grand masters. The band’s last two albums –”The Plague Within“(2015) and “Medusa“(2017) – saw a much celebrated return to brutal\, old school thinking\, via two crushing monoliths to slow-motion death and spiritual defeat. \n\n\n\nConsistently hailed as one of metal’s most charismatic live bands\, PARADISE LOST arrive in this new decade as veterans\, legends and revered figureheads for several generations of gloomy metalheads. In keeping with their unerring refusal to deliver the expected\, 2020 brings one of the band’s most diverse and devastating creations to date. \n\n\n\nwww.paradiselost.co.ukwww.facebook.com/paradiselostofficialwww.nuclearblast.de/paradiselost

SUMMARY:Screaming Dead - Senex IV - Chaos Bleak
DESCRIPTION:SCREAMING DEAD \nScreaming Dead are a horror punk rock band from Cheltenham formed in 1980. They released several singles and EPs with indie chart success\, before splitting up in 1985. They reformed in 1997; disbanded again in 1999; and reformed in 2014. \nScreaming Dead have been an inspiration to many bands in the Horror/Punk/Goth genre. Simply put\, they are unique\, genuine and full of energy\, there really is nothing Dead about the Dead…. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/officialscreamingdead/ \nhttps://screamingdead.bandcamp.com/ \nNight Creatures https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb00M4I5nxU \nSENEX IV \nFrom the ashes of bands from the 80’s onwards\, comes the new dark sounds of SENEX IV. A four piece band from Suffolk whose music crosses the shadowy recesses of early 80’s post-punk and goth’s embroyonic stages. Where the lines between the two are immensely blurred. \nSENEX IV have released two albums. The second album called Gods & Taboos is in partnership with the renowned Batcave Productions Label \nSENEX IV are Dave Middle\, Rob Shaul\, Mark Tingey and Antony Hitchcock (drums). \nhttps://www.facebook.com/SENEXIV/ \nhttps://senexiv.bandcamp.com/ \nTrouble https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE5KGSY58Vs \nCHAOS BLEAK \nNottingham’s finest\, again with histoy. Chaos Bleak take inspiration from the early post-punk sound\, before The Sisters became the template. What would Play Dead sound like if they formed in 2019? \nhttps://www.facebook.com/chaosbleakband \nhttps://chaosbleak.bandcamp.com/ \nFuneral in Berlin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeuWGhTBU4c
