SUMMARY:1919 + La Rissa + Civil Service - PAYF Ukraine benefit show
DESCRIPTION:1919 and La Rissa present a night of classic and contemporary gothic and post-punk music in aid of the Leeds Ukrainian Community Centre’s ongoing fundraising efforts. \n\n\n\n1919 is a post-punk band from Bradford\, considered an original contributor to the goth genre. Starting life with indie chart hits such as club-favourite “Cry Wolf”\, their Machine LP\, and two Peel sessions in the early ‘80s\, 1919 returned after a 30-year hiatus to release 2017’s critically-acclaimed Bloodline LP (Westworld) and 2019’s Futurecide (Cleopatra). The band emerged from quarantine with their fourth studio album in 2021 – their most ambitious work to date. Welcoming new bass player Ding Archer (PJ Harvey\, The Pixies\, The Fall) to the fold\, and following vocalist Rio Goldhammer’s bid to become Mayor of West Yorkshire (NME)\, the band’s latest effort is out on Paris indie stalwart Manic Depression Records and is described in Vive le Rock as “head and shoulders above other denizens of the shadowy genre.” \n\n\n\nLa Rissa is one of West Yorkshire’s most exciting contemporary acts. Humbly self-described as “2 misfits making dark spooky synth pop in a dim little attic in Leeds”\, the band has featured on BBC 6 Music\, Radio 1\, and recently dropped their latest track ‘Parties’ on a live session for BBC Introducing. \n\n\n\nManchester post-rockers Civil Service open proceedings. The band’s brand new EP Life /// Death is out now\, and £1 from each physical sale will go towards humanitarian aid in Ukraine. \n\n\n\nLeeds Ukrainian Community Centre have worked tirelessly to gather financial and material donations for displaced people and volunteer soldiers in Ukraine and western Poland\, and their efforts have provided everything from sanitary products and winter clothing to night-vision goggles and satellite telephones. Many know him for his songs “Brains!” and “Land of the Dead” from the Cartoon Network show “The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy” and for the viral fan animated videos for his songs “The Night” and “Zombie Prostitute.”Voltaire’s live shows\, whether solo or with his skeletal orchestra\, are full of stories and games. DESCRIPTION:Heads up\, Nightmare kids! \n\n\n\nHere at Nightmare HQ\, we’re well known for our love of all sorts of dark music – the darker the better\, darker even than a midnight stroll through the rose garden. But we’re less well known for our liking for horticulture\, so we thought we’d introduce you to where we keep not only our music collection but our scythes and stakes (and even our lawnmower)…Bela Lugosi’s Shed. \n\n\n\nCourtesy of Get Hammered House of Horror™\, we’ve dug deep into our music vaults and found a great allotment of dark and spooky tunes to serenade the most eerie of late night gardening sessions. We’ll be playing the very best of goth\, post-punk\, 80s\, deathrock and eyeliner indie – not to lay it on with a trowel\, but it’ll be a smallholding smorgasbord of sound and a garden of doomy delights. From Bauhaus to Boy Harsher\, Drab Majesty to The Damned\, Soft Cell to Siouxsie. Can you dig it? \n\n\n\nWe’ll have bats in our belltower (well\, upstairs at the Olde Salutation Inn anyway) on Saturday 30th April\, from 9pm – 3am. Entry will be the usual paltry £5. There’s no fancy dress theme this time\, just Dress to Distress – although we recommend you leave your wellies at home\, they’re no good on the dancefloor. We’ll also have a special prize for the best dressed undead – stay tuned for further details as and when we dig them up. \n\n\n\nNo house\, no garage\, all shed!
