Come one and come all, to a very unusual market, in a very unusual place!
Arcane Exhibitions is proudly hosting it’s first official market event; THE CURIOUS EMPORIUM. Set in the fabulous location of York Medical Society, which is down a little alleyway, just off Stonegate in York; the most haunted city in Europe.
On the 30th of September this year, a curious collection of independent creators and sellers will gather at this venue, to offer you an opportunity to purchase something very special, which you won’t be able to find anywhere else!
In addition to the enthralling stalls, there is The Arcane Café; a pop-up gluten free and vegan café! Be sure to treat yourself to a selection of home made cakes, strong Yorkshire tea and posh continental coffee!
The markets of Arcane Exhibitions are very different to any other market you will have likely experienced – the events are multi-sensory, and are only held in visually striking locations. York Medical Society itself has a rich history; some of it’s medical displays date as far back as Victorian times! The venue has three rooms for you to explore; the Tempest Anderson room, the lecture room and the wood panelled room. Each room contains fascinating and somewhat disturbing secrets, which are all waiting to be discovered!
As well as meeting a plethora of independent and fascinating traders, you will encounter some interesting sensations as you journey through the market. Arcane Exhibitions has a secret aim to disrupt your subconscious, by exposing you to different scent profiles, customised audio stimuli and artistic videography. All to provide you with an unusual and interesting experience, unlike any other!
York Medical Society is believed to be frequented by a poltergeist and two interactive personality ghosts. Some people say they have heard footsteps in the Tempest Anderson room, thought to be the disembodied sound of Tempest Anderson himself, and some have seen an injured world war two soldier in the wood panelled room. Guests who have attended the venue in the past for other events, have also reported an unusual odour of cigar smoke in the wood panelled room. All of these signs point to three ghosts being active in the building. We encourage anyone with a passion for paranormal science to attend!
Arcane Exhibitions supports the work of the Sophie Lancaster foundation. They underline the importance of celebrating people who choose to follow an alternative subculture, through lifestyle and dress. Arcane Exhibitions will not tolerate any prejudice, or intolerance towards people who follow an alternative lifestyle.
